If you’re attacked by a violent criminal bent on making your life a living hell, the first thing to do is call the cops. It doesn’t matter what you were doing, or who you were doing it to, at the time of the crime. Make the call. That’s the lesson learned by Clive Owen’s character in the thriller, “Derailed,” adapted from a James Siegel novel by Stuart Beattie (“Collateral”) and directed by Mikael Hafstrom.

Frank Martin is the best in the business. The ex-Special Forces operative hires himself out as a mercenary “transporter” who moves goods–human or otherwise. Very simple, he delivers, no questions asked. Frank has relocated from the French Mediterranean to Miami, Florida, where as a favor to a friend, Frank is driving for the wealthy Billings family. “City by the Sea” is being advertised as a Robert DeNiro film, but the fact of the matter is, this is a James Franco film. His performance as the estranged druggie son of Detective Vincent LaMarca (DeNiro) is the saving grace of a film that is otherwise bogged down by stilted dialogue and scenes that just don’t work.

Painful as it is for Woody Allen fans to accept, it must now be said out loud (not just whispered in dark corners). Woody Allen can not write for 20-somethings. The dialogue in “Match Point” is stilted, delivered as though it’s lifted directly off the page. The overall effect is that the actors appear to be in a play rather than experiencing life.

This action movie unfolds with the story of Bei, a salesman at a workout equipment store, who harbors dreams of adventures.
