Funkier than “Austin Powers” and almost as sexy as James Bond, Eddie Griffin stars as the title character in what hopefully will be just the beginning of a whole new ’secret agent’ movie franchise. “Undercover Brother” is fresh and totally anti-PC - the film plays out as an equal opportunity offender. No subject is forbidden, no joke is left unsaid, and no one is safe from the pens of screenwriters John Ridley and Michael McCullers. “Undercover Brother” takes up where other blaxploitation spoofs left off and does so with reckless abandon and a no-holds barred style that moves fast with nonstop action, a little romance, and free-flowing jokes.

It all begins when young Will Stronghold, the son of the two famous superheroes: Steve and Josie, A.K.A. the incredibly strong, seemingly invulnerable Commander and and the high-speed flying Jetstream. Finally, the hype surrounding one of this summer’s big releases is justified. Transformers delivers the thrills we’ve been waiting for all year long and love him or hate him, director Michael Bay pulls off something films with bigger budgets and more stars (Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Shrek 3, Spider-Man 3) couldn’t accomplish. Transformers is the over-the-top slam-bam action dramedy that almost single-handedly redeems the 2007 summer blockbuster season.

Sam Raimi and his co-writers Ivan Raimi and Alvin Sargent apparently adopted the more is better approach with what could be Raimi’s final film of the Spider-Man franchise. The desire to include more villains, more action, and more romance gave birth to a Spider-Man 3 bloated with unfulfilling storylines, underdeveloped characters, and a film that’s literally all over the place. It’s sort of fun, but not the Spider-Man film we’ve come to expect from Raimi and company.

Bryan Singer’s love of the 1978 Richard Donner Superman film is evident from the very beginning of Superman Returns, a movie which signals the rebirth of yet another comic book superhero film franchise. From the opening scroll of credits to the set design and the film’s borrowed John Williams score, Superman Returns captures the tone of Donner’s work while re-introducing a beloved – and missed – character to movie audiences.

Having defeated the Joker, Batman now faces the Penguin - a warped and deformed individual who is intent on being accepted into Gotham society. Crooked businessman Max Schreck is coerced into helping him become Mayor of Gotham and they both attempt to expose Batman in a different light. Earlier however, Selina Kyle, Max’s secretary, is thrown from the top of a building and is transformed into Catwoman - a mysterious figure who has the same personality disorder as Batman.
