The Rock emerges as a viable action movie star with his role as a bounty hunter on the verge of retirement in Peter Berg’s action comedy “The Rundown.” Expectations weren’t exactly high after his starring turn in the critically panned prequel to “The Mummy,” “The Scorpion King.” But under Peter Berg’s direction in “The Rundown,” The Rock is able to show off a decent set of acting chops. Even more surprising is the fact that even when he’s not kicking some bad guy’s butt, he’s still extremely believable and entertaining to watch. Believe it or not, after “The Rundown,” you can now add drama and comedy to the list of genres The Rock is capable of tackling.

In rural Texas, welder and hunter Llewelyn Moss discovers the remains of several drug runners who have all killed each other in an exchange gone violently wrong. Rather than report the discovery to the police, Moss decides to simply take the two million dollars present for himself. This puts the psychopathic killer, Anton Chigurh, on his trail as he dispassionately murders nearly every rival, bystander and even employer in his pursuit of his quarry and the money. Six criminals, who are strangers to each other, are hired by a crime boss Joe Cabot to carry out a diamond robbery. Right at the outset, they are given false names with an intention that they won’t get too close and concentrate on the job instead. They are completely sure that the robbery is going to be a success. But when the police show up right at the time and the site of the robbery, panic spreads amongst the group members and one of them is killed in the subsequent shootout along with a few policemen and civilians. A wave of kidnappings has swept through Mexico, feeding a growing sense of panic among its wealthier citizens, especially parents. Creasy barely tolerates the precocious child and her pestering questions about him and his life. But slowly, she chips away at his seemingly impenetrable exterior, his defenses drop, and he opens up to her. Creasy’s new-found purpose in life is shattered when Pita is kidnapped.
