If silly fun and a lot of over-the-top action are all you’re in the mood for, then there are worse ways to spend an hour and a half than sitting through what will hopefully be the last film of the Rush Hour franchise, Rush Hour 3. Brett Ratner, a director who’s never been accused of subtlety when it comes to helming feature films, and screenwriter Jeff Nathanson didn’t try to reinvent the Rush Hour wheel. Foregoing a logical plot and any desire they might have had to cover new comic territory, Nathanson and Ratner settled for recycling gags and gimmicks that have worked in the past.

Fans of “Desperado,” prepare to be wowed again. There’s really just one word to describe “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” - Cool. Antonio Banderas is cool, Salma Hayek is cool, and Johnny Depp… Well, Depp could have invented the word.

Fleeing the evil Galactic Empire, the rebels abandon their new base on Hoth. In the beautiful quaint beach resort of Amity Island, something hideous, something so deliciously evil has vanquished the tranquility and shattered the peace. First, it violently took the life of a young girl, leaving her mangled remains rotting on the beach, her echoed screams cursing the night skies. Next, it moved its attention to the children, ripping and tearing as blood turned the calm waters red. Then, just when they thought it was safe to go back in the water, it struck again, mercilessly rampaging in the estuary and attacking the piers where the fisherman unknowingly sat waiting for a catch. Now, something must be done, before it returns to feed. With the Amity tourist board and town Mayor Larry Vaugn determined to keep the beaches open for the Summer Season, its up to Police Chief Brody, marine biologist Matt Hooper and colorful fisherman Quint to hunt down the 200 Pound White Death and put an end to the bloodshed. Detroit cop Axel Foley is delighted when he receives a surprise visit from his best friend Mikey Tandino, who lives in California. Not long after Mikey arrives in Detroit, Mikey is killed, right in front of Axel, by a man named Zack. Axel follows Zack to Beverly Hills, California, where Beverly Hills police department Lieutenant Andrew Bogomil assigns Detective Billy Rosewood and Rosewood’s partner, Sergeant John Taggart, to keep an eye on Axel. Axel visits his friend Jenny Summers, who works in an art gallery. With Jenny’s help, Axel discovers that Zack works for Jenny’s boss, Victor Maitland, the man who owns the art gallery. Maitland is a drug kingpin who is using the gallery as a front, and Maitland had Zack kill Mikey after Maitland accused Mikey of stealing some of Maitland’s bonds. With the help of Jenny, Billy, and Taggart, Axel does what he can to make sure Maitland and Zack won’t kill any more people. Written by Todd Baldridge
