I’ve heard people refer to “The Notebook” as cheesy, as a ‘chick flick’ (a label very few of my colleagues can stand because of its negative connotation), as predictable and sappy. So “The Notebook” doesn’t exactly take a brain surgeon to guess how the story is going to play out. And it does unapologetically play on your emotions, practically begging you to squeeze out a few tears. But here’s why I enjoyed “The Notebook”: it’s a movie you can relax and let flow over you. It’s also one of the few films out there that tells a complete story. There’s a well-defined beginning, middle, and end.

Edward Burns wrote, directed, produced and stars in this blunt, tell-it-like-it-is romantic comedy. “Sidewalks of New York” showcases the grittier side of love, lust, and committed relationships. The film’s an intelligent, frank - yet amusing - look at a group of New Yorkers whose lives intersect and are tossed about in tumultuous, though thoroughly believable, relationships.

Painful as it is for Woody Allen fans to accept, it must now be said out loud (not just whispered in dark corners). Woody Allen can not write for 20-somethings. The dialogue in “Match Point” is stilted, delivered as though it’s lifted directly off the page. The overall effect is that the actors appear to be in a play rather than experiencing life.

CW Briggs is a veteran insurance investigator, with many successes. Betty Ann Fitzgerald is a new employee in the company he works for, with the task of reorganizing the office. They don’t like each other - or at least that’s what they think. During a night out with the rest of the office employees, they go to watch Voltan, a magician who secretly hypnotizes both of them, in order to use them for his dirty schemes. The next evening already, Briggs makes his first robbery, and when he wakes up in the morning he has no memory of it. Things get really complicated when he starts investigating the case.
