A newspaper photographer, Jean, researches the lurid and sensational axe murder of two women in 1873 as an editorial tie-in with a brutal modern double murder. She discovers a cache of papers that appear to give an account of the murders by an eyewitness. Edward Burns wrote, directed, produced and stars in this blunt, tell-it-like-it-is romantic comedy. “Sidewalks of New York” showcases the grittier side of love, lust, and committed relationships. The film’s an intelligent, frank - yet amusing - look at a group of New Yorkers whose lives intersect and are tossed about in tumultuous, though thoroughly believable, relationships.

Do you ever feel like everyone but you is in on the joke? I didn’t feel that way with Wes Anderson’s other films – “Bottle Rocket,” “Rushmore,” or the amazing “Royal Tenenbaums.” Those films were clever but never condescending. Those I understood and basically stood in awe of. But from the title to the bizarre action sequences, “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou” left me feeling like an outsider looking in.

Painful as it is for Woody Allen fans to accept, it must now be said out loud (not just whispered in dark corners). Woody Allen can not write for 20-somethings. The dialogue in “Match Point” is stilted, delivered as though it’s lifted directly off the page. The overall effect is that the actors appear to be in a play rather than experiencing life.
