Heavy sigh as I ponder where to start. Okay, this is it: taken separately, Chris Rock and Bernie Mac are two terrifically funny actors. But put them together and there’s not much funny going on. They seem to have stepped through some comedy-sucking portal, leaving the resulting product of their collaboration - “Head of State” - empty, lifeless and flat.

Queen Latifah is the reason to see “Last Holiday.” This generally entertaining remake of the 1950 film starring Alec Guinness only fully blossoms when Queen Latifah is on the screen. Fortunately for audiences, Queen Latifah is in 99% of the scenes.

“Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking your Juice in the Hood” is a parody of a lot of Afro-American movies, for instance “Boyz N the Hood”, “South Central”, “Menace II Society”, “Higher Learning” and “Juice“. We follow Ashtray as he returns to the place he grew up in and meet his father and his basket-case friends. A lot of crazy stuff happens, for example, Ashtray is older than his father and his best friend Loc Dog’s grandmother is a trigger-happy old lady who blames her eccentric-looking kid for not being tough enough. Robert dean is a mild-mannered lawyer who works in Washington D.C. He is on the trail of a kingpin named Pintero. Meanwhile, a politician named Thomas Reynolds is negotiating with Congressman Phillip Hammerson about a new surveillance system with satellites. But, Hammerson declines, that is when Reynolds had Hammerson killed, but this murder was caught on tape, and this person was being chased by Reynolds’ team of NSA agents, the guy must ditch the tape, so he plants it on Dean (unbeknownst to Dean). Then, the NSA decides to get into Dean’s life. That is when Dean’s life began to fall apart all around him, with his wife and job both gone. Dean wants to find out what is going on. Then, he meets a man named “Brill” who tells him that Dean has something that the government wants. Rick is very bitter towards Ilsa, who ran out on him in Paris, but when he learns she had good reason to, they plan to run off together again using the letters of transit.
