Shrek (2001)Saturday, May 5th, 2007 |

Tyrants - Monsters - Heroes - Ear Wax.This is one of the funniest movies I’ve seen in years. It’s also one of the sweetest romances. Who would have thought that a huge, ugly, bug-eating, tube-eared, gassy green ogre could be so loveable? Mike Myers voice was the perfect match for this animated creature, though personally I believe Eddie Murphy stole the show with his Donkey doings. |
Shrek 2 (2004)Tuesday, May 8th, 2007 |

Just hearing the word ‘sequel’ makes me cringe. Too many times the fond memories of a good movie have been ruined by a lame, cash-in-while-the-getting-is-good sequel. The bad sequel list goes on ad nauseam, populated with misguided, unnecessary and annoying attempts to recapture the spirit – and the box office dollars – of a successful movie. And no matter how you try to forget them, bad sequels leave a rotten taste in your mouth that taints the enjoyment of the original film. But the powers behind “Shrek” got it right. They pulled off the near impossible and created a sequel that’s better than the original. Even the computer generated animation, which was pretty darn good in the first film, has been vastly improved. This “Shrek” looks gorgeous, feels fresh, and touches your heart on a grander scale than the first movie. |

Adaptation of the fairy tale of the same name. To try to prevent this, the king places her into hiding, in the care of three goodnatured - but not too bright - fairies. Written by Tim Pickett {quetzal@yoyo.cc.monash.edu.au} |
Sleepy Hollow (1999)Thursday, March 15th, 2007 |
|
The classic story of “The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow” is brought to life by the gothic film maker Tim Burton. Johnny Depp plays Ichabod Crane, and to win the heart of Katrina Van Tassel (Christina Ricci) he will have to brave the nearby woods, even though several decapitated bodies have been found. And then the legend of the axe wielding headless horsemen come together to make this movie. Written by Chris Barker |
Slipstream (2007)Friday, April 18th, 2008 |
|
An actor and would-be screenwriter, who at the very moment of his meeting with Fate, comes to discover that life is random and fortune is sightless. He is thrown into a vortex where time, dreams, and reality collide in an increasingly whirling slipstream. It’s a surreal and dreamlike tale of one man’s journey. Written by Gregg Brilliant |
Snow White: A Tale of Terror (1997)Saturday, August 18th, 2007 |
|
Based somewhat more authentically on the Grimm Brothers’ story of a young woman who is unliked by her stepmother, the film includes the talking mirror, a poisoned apple, and some ruffian gold (not diamond) miners (and they aren’t dwarfs or cute). It takes place at the time of the Crusades, and depicts the attitudes of the wealthy and the peasant classes toward one another. Written by BOB STEBBINS {stebinsbob@aol.com} |

Sound of Thunder, A (2005)Saturday, February 3rd, 2007 |
|
Yes folks, it’s official. “A Sound of Thunder” has captured the dubious title of Worst Movie of the Year. I know we still have a couple of months left in 2005 but there’s absolutely no way any film could top the sheer stupidity of “A Sound of Thunder.” |
