Eight Below (2006)Monday, October 1st, 2007 |
|
Don’t let the ads or the poster fool you, this isn’t “Snow Dogs” (thank goodness) and you’d be wrong to dismiss this as just another Disney dog movie. Inspired by real events, “Eight Below” is a first-rate family film loaded with terrific performances by two and four-legged actors. “Eight Below” director Frank Marshall and Disney deliver a film that satisfies on multiple levels and should find box office gold with this genuinely touching movie. |
Elektra (2005)Saturday, February 3rd, 2007 |
|
Jennifer Garner looks hot in skintight red leather and she can hold her own in fight scenes as well as any actor around. But sexy costumes, a fair amount of flesh, and a few well choreographed fight sequences can’t make up for the fact “Elektra” lacks heart. Sluggishly paced and devoid of the dark humor and wit that set the “Spider-Man” and “X-Men” movie franchises apart, “Elektra” manages to rise only a whisker above its “Daredevil” predecessor. And it’s not like “Daredevil” set the bar high in the first place. |
The Eliminator (2004)Saturday, May 5th, 2007 |
|
Former LAPD cop, Dakota Varley (played by UFC champion Bas Rutten), enters a power boat race seeking the prize of $250,000, but immediately discovers, first hand, that this race’s risk matches the prize: one racer is killed, 3 others seriously injured in multiple action-packed crashes and explosions. Varley prevails. Varley tries to leave the lake and collect his prize money but is drugged and kidnapped by Dawson (portrayed by Michael Rooker) and thrown into a different world: a world where survivl means everything and no-one follows the rules. Varley awakens on an island, strapped to pole, like a pig being carried to a barbeque. Surrounded by heavily-armed men, he soon learns that he and six other victims have been assembled to be contestants in the ultimate survival game: they will be hunted nightly by hunters with rifles until there is one remaining survivor, who will win a $10,000,000 cash prize! As the story unfolds, we meet the other contestants Jesse is an undercover DEA agent in Venezuela, Santha is military instructor for a group of revolutionaries in Sierra Leone, and that Darius is a socio-pathic murderer, court-martialed and supposedly imprisoned by the U.S. Army for slaughtering 40 innocents in Kosovo. We also learn, in bits and pieces, that each contestant has been brought to the game by a “Player.” Wealthy men and women who have each selected of one of the Contestants. Among these men are Carlos Alvarez, Venezuelan Drug Lord; U.S. Army General Ellison; and Ochiro Sumanni, a Japanese Gang Boss. All the while, we follow the Contestants as they struggle to survive the attacks not by of the hunters, but also each other. Enjoy the thrill ride as we follow Varley throught this intense action adventure: Varley’s game. Are you ready to play? Written by Anonymous |

Epic Movie (2007)Sunday, August 26th, 2007 |
|
Satire. Four troubled orphans from four separate movie scenario’s who are bind together in a wacky chocolate factory after receiving golden tickets to go on an ‘epic adventure.’ After they escape from the clutches of a very scary Willy Wonka they discover the magical world of ‘Gnarnia’ through an enchanted wardrobe. There they must seek the help of a randy lion, a hoard of mutants from the x academy, students of witchcraft and wizardry, funky swash-buckling pirates and a mischievous beaver to defeat the evil white bitch! A movie of Epic Proportions indeed! Written by MovieMagic |
Eragon (2006)Thursday, October 18th, 2007 |
|
The Bottom LineFor all the originality on display in “Eragon” it might as well be called “Lord of the Dragon.” The story is a mishmash of elements from a handful of better fantasy films. Throw liberal bits of “Lord of the Rings,” some “Star Wars,” and a smattering of “Dragonheart” into a pot and you’ve got the basic set-up for “Eragon.” However unlike “LOTR” or even “Star Wars,” this dragon pic is a passionless pit of corny dialogue and curiously one-dimensional characters.
With no character development and a story short on drama, this big budget fantasy flick might bore audience members over the age of 10 right out of their minds. |
EuroTrip (2004)Wednesday, March 21st, 2007 |

I hate critics who include “I hate to admit this” as part of their reviews, but unfortunately I must join their ranks. Maybe I’ve used the line before and blocked it from my memory. If so, then I apologize. I watched the “Eurotrip” trailer, said ‘whatever,’ and went to the movie expecting a gross-out, raunchy teen-ish ‘R’-rated comedy with a few actual jokes that hit their marks surrounded by needless shots of naked female bodies. That’s what I expected but it’s not what “Eurotrip” delivered. |
